Seven Emerging Designers Are Turning St John’s Hyde Park Into a Catwalk for London Fashion Week
The venue is doing a lot of the talking here, so start with the venue. St John’s Church on Hyde Park Crescent is Grade II listed, holds 250 seats, and sits a few minutes’ walk from Paddington and Marble Arch. For one evening during London Fashion Week it becomes a runway, which is less strange than it sounds, because heritage buildings are quietly becoming the real stages of Fashion Week now. Banking Hall hosted the Flair Fashion IGNITE runway in February, One Great George Street has carried emerging designer showcases, and a church with natural light and real acoustics beats a black-box event space for photographing clothes every single time. Photographers know it, which is partly why press and fashion media are covering this one through the whole evening.
The show itself is an emerging designer lineup, more than seven of them, with a cast of over 30 international models, and the collections are running from couture through to contemporary streetwear. No headline names, and that is the point of rooms like this. The established houses are showing you decisions already made months ago. A 250 seat emerging showcase is where buyers, agencies and stylists go to see what has not been decided yet, and the guest list is built exactly that way, buyers and retailers scouting the next wave, agencies watching the model cast, designers in the audience measuring themselves against the ones on the runway. Designers wanting a slot on a future lineup are being asked to call +44 7482378966 directly rather than book anything online, which tells you the lineup is curated, not sold.
It is a short evening, arrival and networking from 5:30 PM, runway sessions 6:00 to 7:30, then a closing reception with media time until 8:00. Two ticket tiers. Standard covers the runway and networking. VIP adds reserved front row seating, a welcome drink, media photos, and drinks and canapés, and in a room this size the front row is genuinely close, not the ceremonial front row of a convention hall. Dress code, in the organisers’ own words: chic, fashionable, camera ready. Believe them about the cameras.
