Best Months for Umrah from the UK: Finding That Perfect Balance Between Blessings and Budget

Best Months for Umrah from the UK in 2026

Editor’s Note (March 2026): The Ramadan and Rajab 2026 dates mentioned in this guide have now passed. However, the price comparisons, month-by-month breakdowns, and planning advice remain fully valid for upcoming months and 2027 planning. Use this as your reference guide regardless of when you’re reading it.

As a British Muslim who’s spent countless hours researching Umrah packages, comparing operators, and talking to brothers and sisters who’ve gone before me, I’ve put this guide together to help us all make the best decision. SubhanAllah, every year we face the same heartfelt question: do we go all-in for Ramadan’s unmatched rewards, or choose a sacred month that’s easier on the wallet so we can take the whole family? I’ve felt that pull myself – the excitement of Laylatul Qadr versus the reality of stretching the budget. After digging deep into 2026 dates, current package prices from trusted UK operators, and real experiences shared in our communities, here’s what I’ve found. InshaAllah, it helps you plan with peace of mind.

Why the Month Matters So Much to Us

Not every month carries the same barakah, and prices rise with demand for the most blessed times. Ramadan is incomparable, but Rajab, Shaban, and even Muharram are full of mercy too. The Prophet ﷺ loved performing Umrah in certain months, and Allah has made multiple opportunities for us to visit His House. The key is sincerity – no month diminishes your Umrah if your intention is pure.

Ramadan 2026 (Expected: 18/19 February – 18/19 March)

This is the month our hearts yearn for most. Ramadan 2026 is expected to start around the evening of 18 February (depending on moon sighting in the UK), with Laylatul Qadr likely falling in the odd nights of the last 10 – many of us seek the 27th night, around 16-17 March.

Spiritual blessings that bring tears to the eyes:

  • Multiplied rewards for every good deed
  • Gates of Paradise open, gates of Hell closed
  • A single night better than 1,000 months
  • Taraweeh in the Haramain with millions of believers

But yes, prices reflect the rush. From what I’ve seen across operators like Al-Haram Travel, Islamic Travel, and others for 2026 packages (10-14 nights, UK departure):

Approximate costs (quad sharing, economy flights):

Hotel TierEarly Ramadan (first 20 days)Last 10 Nights
3-Star£900–£1,300£1,600–£2,000
4-Star£1,100–£1,500£2,000–£2,600
5-Star Luxury£1,500–£2,300£3,300–£5,000+

The jump for the last 10 nights is real – hotels near the Haram often require minimum 10-night stays then, and premium spots sell out 8-10 months ahead. By now (January 2026), many close-to-Haram options are gone, leaving farther hotels with shuttles. During fasting, that shuttle wait in 28-34°C March heat can feel exhausting, especially with kids or elderly parents.

Who this is perfect for: Those of us who can afford it and want the peak spiritual experience. If you’ve been saving for years to pray Taraweeh in Masjid al-Haram during those blessed nights, nothing compares.

Note: UK February half-term (16-20 Feb) overlaps the start, pushing flight prices up 15-20%. Booked early? Alhamdulillah. Waiting? Expect higher costs.

Rajab 2026 (Approx: 21 December 2025 – 19 January 2026)

Rajab is one of the four sacred months, and 27th Rajab (Isra & Mi’raj) falls around 16 January 2026 – a night of immense reflection on the Prophet’s ﷺ journey.

Blessings that warm the heart:

  • Sacred month with huge rewards
  • Commemorating Isra & Mi’raj
  • Prophet ﷺ encouraged fasting in the sacred months

Package prices I’ve found (10 nights):

  • 3-Star: £600–£700
  • 4-Star: £650–£800
  • 5-Star: £800–£1,000

This, wallahi, is my personal sweet spot. You’re saving 40-60% compared to Ramadan, weather is cooler (18-28°C), crowds are manageable, and you can actually find 4/5-star hotels within walking distance for budget prices. The Haram feels peaceful – more space to pray, cry, make dua without being rushed.

Who this suits: Families like mine who want barakah without breaking the bank. Anyone with January flexibility. Perfect for taking parents or kids comfortably.

Shaban 2026 (Approx: 20 January – 17 February)

The month the Prophet ﷺ grand children, with Shab-e-Barat (15th Shaban, around 3-4 February) – the Night of Forgiveness.

Blessings:

  • Preparation for Ramadan
  • Night when destinies are decided

Prices (10 nights):

  • 3-Star: £620–£750
  • 4-Star: £700–£850
  • 5-Star: £850–£1,100

Slightly more than Rajab but still half Ramadan prices. Great “warm-up” month – many of us fast voluntarily while there, building momentum for Ramadan.

Who this suits: Those wanting strong spiritual merit without peak chaos. School term means fewer families, but easier for working adults.

Muharram & Safar 2026 (July-August, post-Hajj)

Sacred months again, with Ashura fasting recommended. Quietest time.

Prices hit rock bottom (10 nights):

  • 3-Star: £450–£600
  • 4-Star: £550–£700
  • 5-Star: £750–£950

The heat (38-45°C) is intense, no doubt – walking to the Haram while fasting is a test of sabr. But the peace? SubhanAllah, you can pray in the front rows, feel the serenity.

Who this suits: Budget-conscious brothers and sisters, or those who love quiet reflection. Summer holidays mean families can go without school absences.

What UK Packages Usually Include (From My Research)

Most reputable ATOL-protected operators offer:

  • Return flights (often indirect)
  • Umrah visa
  • Hotels (split Makkah/Madinah)
  • Ground transfers (usually coach between cities)

Extras that add up:

  • Ziyarat tours: £50-£150
  • Meals: £15-£30/day
  • Direct flights upgrade: £200+
  • Zamzam shipping: £100+

About the Haramain train: Many budget packages stick with coach (included). Train is faster (2h20m) but tickets SAR 150-250 (£32-£53), plus taxis to/from stations (£15-20 total). Often not worth the upgrade unless mobility is an issue.

Real Savings Example

Same 4-star package:

  • Muharram: £550–£700 → Save £1,400+ vs last 10 Ramadan nights
  • Rajab: £650–£800 → Save £1,200–£1,800
  • For a family of four in Rajab vs Ramadan peak: £5,000–£7,000 saved. That’s another Umrah, or helping others go.

My Advice After All This Research

Book with ATOL-protected operators only. Check exact hotel distances (Google Maps the address!). Add all extras for true cost.

But honestly, the best month is the one Allah makes easy for you. Would I rather experience Laylatul Qadr once in Ramadan, or visit His House twice in Rajab and Shaban for the same money? Would I go alone in peak season, or take my parents in cooler, quieter Rajab?

None of us are “less” for choosing affordability – the Prophet ﷺ said Umrah in Ramadan equals Hajj with him, but he also did most Umrahs in Shaban and encouraged the sacred months. Intention is everything.

May Allah accept our Umrah whichever month we choose, grant us all the chance to stand before the Ka’bah with tears flowing, and make it easy for every British Muslim dreaming of this journey. Ameen.

If anything changes with moon sightings or prices, always double-check with operators. JazakAllah khair for reading – feel free to share your experiences!
