The Yards Thriller Halloween Flash Mob In Covent Garden On 30 October
Anyone finishing work near Covent Garden this Friday has a reason to walk home the long way. The Yards is staging a Thriller flash mob on Langley Street from 6pm to 7pm on Friday 30 October, with 20 professional dancers in costume and face paint and live music running on after it.
- Date: Friday 30 October 2026
- Time: Flash mob 6pm to 7pm, the party carries on into the evening
- Where: Corner of Langley Street and Mercer Walk, London WC2H 9JA, spreading through St Martin’s Courtyard and Slingsby Place
- Tickets: None needed, the street is open to anyone passing
- Price: Free
One thing in the Facebook listing needs clearing up. The event header shows “11 AM PDT”, which is Facebook converting the start time for a viewer on the US west coast. The dancers go on at 6pm London time. Turning up at 11am will find the shops open and nothing else.
What Happens On The Night
The Yards is bringing the New York version of the Thriller flash mob to London. Twenty dancers perform the routine in the full zombie look, elaborate face paint included, and they move through the lanes of The Yards during the hour. A live band plays alongside, and the listing describes the party continuing “into the night” across the three courtyards.
The best place to stand is the corner of Langley Street and Mercer Walk, because that is where the organisers say to head, and from there the courtyards open out on either side. The lanes are narrow, so arriving before 6pm will matter more than it would in a square.
What Else Is On At The Yards That Day
The flash mob closes a month of Halloween and Día de los Muertos activity across the estate. Two things fall on the Friday itself.
- Calavera skull painting workshop at Fair Shot cafe, 3 Slingsby Place, WC2E 9AB, with sessions at 10am and 11am. Run with Styled Story, for children aged 16 and under, and booked through Eventbrite. The listing says spaces are limited.
- The Calavera trail runs until Sunday 1 November. Pick up a free map from Fair Shot, find the six characters hidden around The Yards, take the first letter of each name and unscramble the word.
The London Film School “make a horror film in a weekend” workshop in the same post ran on 17 and 18 October, so that one has gone.
Where To Eat Before Or After
Nettle, a new rooftop restaurant above Covent Garden, has just opened with a menu built on Kent and Sussex produce and British seafood. It opens Tuesday to Saturday, so Friday is covered. Dim Sum Library has a new xiao long bao series, with flavours from tom yum seafood to wagyu beef with black pepper. Dishoom runs a lunch for two from £16 a head, Monday to Friday, 12pm to 5pm, which is too early for the flash mob but fits a half-term day out that ends with it.
For a family doing the full day:
- Skull workshop at 10am or 11am, Fair Shot
- Trail map picked up at the same counter and walked between lunch and dark
- Dishoom lunch at £16 a head, so £32 for a parent and one child, more for the table
- Flash mob at 6pm, costing nothing
Langley Street residents and anyone who worked in Covent Garden in the eighties will know the street for Pineapple Dance Studios, which has sat at number 7 since 1979. A Thriller routine on Langley Street is dancers performing outside the building half of London’s dancers trained in. The Pineapple shop on the estate has its autumn stock in, for anyone who wants to go home with something to wear.
Who Is Running It
The Yards is the shopping and dining district between Long Acre and St Martin’s Lane, and it is the organiser named on the listing. This is a free street performance put on by the estate, not a ticketed show, and there is no indoor venue, so the weather on the night is part of the deal. Nothing here is affiliated with the Michael Jackson estate or with the New York group that started the flash mob tradition.
Half term ends that weekend. Will the dancers get a crowd, or will Covent Garden on a Friday at 6pm already be too packed to see them?
