Anyone in Nottingham with a 6 year old who has sung Let It Go round the house for 3 years straight will want this one in the diary. THE HIGHLY TRENDING PRINCESS PROMS IS IN NOTTINGHAM

The Facebook post says the Theatre Royal, and the listing says “Theatre Royal & Royal Concert Hall”, which can be confusing because they are 2 different rooms in the same building on Theatre Square. Visit Nottinghamshire lists it in the Royal Concert Hall, so that is the door to head for.

A Monday Afternoon Show In Half Term

Monday sounds like an odd day for a family show until you look at the school calendar. Nottingham City schools have a 2 week October half term this year, from 19 October to 30 October, so the 26th is the Monday of the second week, which is about when most parents have run out of ideas. Academies can set their own dates, so check your child’s school, but for a lot of families this is a school-free Monday.

PRINCESS PROMS IS IN NOTTINGHAM

The clocks go back on Sunday 25 October as well, the night before, so everyone gets an extra hour in bed before the trip into town.

Which Songs Are In The Programme

The organisers have kept the full set list quiet, though the listing names the films and artists they draw from, and they split into 3 groups.

The Disney Ones Parents Grew Up With

Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and Pocahontas are all from the early to mid 90s, so the mums and dads in the room will know these as well as the children. Anastasia is in there too, from 1997, and that is a Fox film, not Disney, which a lot of people get wrong.

The Ones The Children Will Shout For

Frozen, Moana and Wicked are the big ones for this age group, and then there is KPop Demon Hunters, the Netflix film from last year. Its song Golden went to number 1 in the UK, and if your house is anything like most, you will already know every word of it whether you wanted to or not.

The Ones You Might Not Expect

The Wizard of Oz goes back to 1939, and the Visit Nottinghamshire listing adds songs by Taylor Swift, Coldplay and Rachel Platten as well. Platten is the Fight Song singer, which fits the “uplifting and inspiring messages” line the organisers keep coming back to.

What Else Is On Stage Besides The Singing

The listing promises West End performers, aerial acts and dancers, so it is more of a show than a concert where people stand at microphones. The poster has a singer in a big ball gown with pink and blonde hair, pointing out at the crowd, and that gives you a fair idea of the look.

There is a disclaimer at the bottom of every listing, and it is fair to point out. The Princess Proms is run by a company called The Enchanted Voices, and it is not linked to Disney, Netflix or any of the films. This is a tribute concert of the songs, so do not expect the official characters from the films.

Booking Tickets For Monday

With a week to go, the prices on the listing run like this:

  • Cheapest seat: £24.50
  • Top price: £47.50
  • Family of 4 in the cheapest seats: £98

That last one adds up quickly, so it is a good idea to compare the seat map before you pick. Book through princessproms.com/N or call the Royal Concert Hall box office on 0115 989 5555. Is your little one going in a dress? Elsa, Moana or Glinda, we would love to know which one wins in your house.
